What stays on your iPhone

Your catalog is stored inside the app on your iPhone. It includes bottle and release details, quantities, purchase information, notes, scores, wishlist entries and scan history. Photographs you take or choose for Collection and Wishlist records are stored as app-contained files. Unfinished entries and local recovery information may also be retained so interrupted work can be reviewed or resumed.

We cannot see or retrieve that local catalog through the app. Core cataloging works without an internet connection. The app does not use a public bottle database or sync your collection between devices.

Camera and photographs

Camera access is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or photograph a bottle. You can also explicitly choose an existing image. Barcode and label-text processing take place on your iPhone. The app does not upload those images to a recognition service.

For Collection photographs, Save to Photos creates a separate copy in your Photos library. You can request a copy individually or enable automatic copies in Settings. Automatic copies are off by default. This uses add-only Photos access, not permission to browse your library. Choosing a picture through the system picker is a separate action that gives the app the image you select. Wishlist photographs remain app-contained and do not use this automatic Collection-copy setting.

Curator and optional voice

Curator's built-in suggestions use your local catalog. On supported iPhones and languages, broader question interpretation uses Apple's on-device model. The app then matches records and calculates counts locally. Curator proposes supported changes for your confirmation; it does not independently authorize a catalog change. The app does not send your questions or catalog to a remote model service.

When you choose the Curator microphone, the app asks for microphone permission and processes speech on your iPhone. It does not save an audio recording or upload the audio. Recognized text can appear in the question field and conversation.

The conversation, unfinished question and spoken-reply preference stay in app-session memory when you move between tabs. The app does not save that conversation history for a later launch. New conversation lets you deliberately clear the current messages and unsent text; saved bottles remain unchanged. A confirmed catalog change is stored separately, and a local recovery record can remain while an uncertain save needs checking.

If speech language files are missing, the app offers an explicit download through Apple's system services. You choose whether to download them; a connection is required. This asset download does not send your voice or catalog to us. Optional spoken replies use installed system voices. Availability depends on your device, language, system settings and installed resources. You can use the built-in suggestions or manual catalog without microphone access or the on-device language model.

Exports, Photos and device backups

When you save a catalog backup, iOS asks where to send the file. Nothing is sent automatically. The file contains catalog information and photograph metadata, but it does not include photograph files. Restore works only in an empty catalog and does not recover those photographs.

Exported files and copies you save to Photos are separate from the app's own data. The destination or service you choose controls those copies. For example, a chosen cloud file provider or your Photos settings may store them outside the device.

When iCloud Backup is on and includes Pop's Stash, app data is included in that iPhone backup under Apple's service and your Apple Account. This is separate from the app's catalog export and is not collection synchronization. We do not have access to your iPhone backup.

Retention, deletion and permissions

Local catalog data remains until you remove it with an available in-app deletion action or delete the app. Archiving a release preserves its history; it is not deletion. Deleting Pop's Stash removes its on-device database and app-contained photographs. It does not delete copies you exported, saved to Photos, or included in device backups; those must be managed at their destinations.

You can revoke Camera, Photos or Microphone permissions in iPhone Settings. Manual cataloging remains available without those permissions. There is no developer-held catalog account or server copy for us to delete.

Apple services and beta testing

The app does not contain advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. Apple and destinations you choose operate under their own privacy terms when you use services such as device backup, Photos, the share sheet or system asset downloads.

If you use TestFlight, Apple provides installation and crash information and sends us feedback you choose to submit. That feedback may include your email address and information you attach. TestFlight feedback is separate from the app's local catalog; do not include private catalog information or photographs unless you intend to share them.

Children

Pop's Stash is a catalog for adult collectors and is not directed at children.

Changes

Updates to this policy will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
